Since 1961, students have been coming to Schoolcraft College with hopes and dreams to better their lives. Our mission is to do everything in our power to make that happen for them. Schoolcraft College exists to give hope to students who may otherwise not have access to higher education and therefore never have a chance to reach their full potential. Below you can read the stories of three Schoolcraft students who have benefited because a donor like you said YES to their Success.

Kailyn's Story

As a single mother, I decided to go back to school. I had attended years before, but because of personal issues I didn’t do well. Upon returning, I had to retake many classes so that my poor past performance wouldn’t harm my future progress. I have managed to go from a student on academic dismissal, to a student on the Dean’s list. I cannot begin to express how grateful I am to have been selected to receive a scholarship. I will be taking my test for the nursing program in a few weeks, just one thing this scholarship is making possible. An $85 testing fee may not seem like much to most people, but to me, a single mom, its money that would have taken me months to save.

My education was put on a back burner for a long time, I’m so proud of how far I’ve come. Words will never be able to express my gratitude for this scholarship which has allowed me to pursue my dreams and goals and show my two-year-old daughter that anything is possible if you put your mind to it.

Brooke's Story

I am honored to have been chosen for a scholarship, and it will be a constant reminder to go above and beyond not only for myself, but for those around me. Along with going to college full-time, I am working part-time and all of my earnings will strictly go towards my college expenses and helping out my parents. This is important because in 2015, my father was diagnosed with terminal stage four brain cancer. In a household of four, my mother and I are now the only sources of income. This scholarship benefits something more than myself, it is my father’s peace of mind and helps relieve my mom’s financial burden. Thank you again for generosity. It is people like you who work little miracles so that others can have a chance to experience miracles of their own.

Kenneth's Story

I want to express deep gratitude for the scholarship I have been awarded. I cannot describe the joy I felt when I got the email saying I had received it. I immediately wanted to know whose hand I could shake or who I could hug to more personally express my gratitude.

It was a long tumultuous road for me early on in regards to education. When I was younger, I took the “there’s no need for school if I work hard enough” attitude and struggled more than I would have, had I gone to college right out of high school. Then, at 22 years old I was diagnosed with cancer and struggled again for some time. Finally at age 26, I received my GED and now I am studying to go into the Biomedical Engineering Technician field and I love the schooling thus far.

I’ve been a bit of a late bloomer but I’ve overcome many obstacles along the way and now have nothing to hold me back from success other than myself.

I’ve never felt like one of the lucky people that win sweepstakes or lottery prizes, but receiving a gift of generosity like this, I can only imagine, far exceeds that sort of joy. It feels so wonderful to have my hard work recognized and rewarded by others. This recognition, is equally if not more important to me than the financial reward. Again, I cannot express the level of appreciation and peace this it has brought me, I hope you realize the difference you have made in at least one person’s life.
