Corewell Health Partnership Supports Nursing Students
Schoolcraft College and Corewell Health have teamed up to create the Corewell Health RN Scholarships Program, which provides support for aspiring nursing students. The program offers second year nursing students with scholarships and guaranteed job placement jobs at a local Corewell Health facility.
The Schoolcraft College Foundation will award 20 Corewell Health Nursing Scholarships for Fall 2023 academic year, providing up to $8,500 in financial assistance. These scholarships can be used by Schoolcraft College students for tuition, books, and other educational expenses during their second year of the RN nursing program. To qualify for job placements, recipients must pass the NCLEX examination and commit to working at a Corewell Health hospital in southeast Michigan for at least two years.
This collaboration between Schoolcraft College and Corewell Health integrates aims to support nursing students by providing financial aid and direct employment opportunities. By integrating education and practical experience, the Corewell Health RN Scholarship Program aims to cultivate a skilled and dedicated nursing workforce while meeting healthcare needs in southeast Michigan.
Asian Indian Women’s Association Establishes Endowment Fund
The Schoolcraft College Foundation is happy to be partnering with the Asian Indian Women’s Association to create a new scholarship fund to assist in supporting our students. The Asian Indian Women’s Association (AIWA) of Michigan is passionate about their 4-pillar foundation – Strength, Empowerment, Education, and Community. AIWA is proud to be the first Asian Indian organization to establish a scholarship endowment in perpetuity at Schoolcraft College Foundation (SCF).
AIWA shares the mission of SCF to provide assistance to aid students in need, guided by the belief that education is the bedrock for individual advancement and for a thriving society. The AIWA Endowed Scholarship Fund provides Schoolcraft students scholarships to financially disadvantaged students enrolled at least part time. Celebrating Philanthropy
The Schoolcraft College Foundation’s Annual Donor Celebration was held in June at the Vistatech Center. Donors were recognized for joining the Henry Rowe Schoolcraft Society, reaching new levels of the Bell Tower Society, and individuals, businesses and organizations who created new endowment funds to support students and programs across campus. On behalf of the Foundation Board of Governors, thank you to the entire Schoolcraft community for your generosity!
New Support for the Veterans Resource Center
As part of the Vision 2025 Fundraising Campaign, the expansion of the Veteran’s Resource Center of Schoolcraft College, a Michigan Veterans Affairs Gold Level Veteran-Friendly School, was one of the key areas in the case for support. The Veterans & Military Services Center (VMSC), located in the center of campus, is crucial in assisting our veterans, and current military members and their families to reach their educational goals. Providing aid during the enrollment process, assisting with transcripts, and other materials, as well as helping to navigate all available VA benefits, are just a sample of what the VMSC offers students and scholarships.
The existing space is being expanded and named the Mark L. Whitfield Veterans & Military Services Center, allowing more room for our men and women who give so much to our country. Mark graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and served six years on active duty as well as a Navy Reservist and now a retired Commander.
In addition to Mark and Robin Whitfield’s support, the project has also received a the following support: $150,000 grant from Masco. Renovations started in July with a targeted opening date of November 11, Veteran’s Day.
MASCO has provided a $150,000 grant for renovations to the space. This expansion will allow the College to expand services to Military members and families of Military members. This additional funding will enable the project to start in July 2023.
An additional gift from Jim and Charlie Mahoney starts started The Winom James & Charlotte Mahoney Veterans & Military Services Center Emergency Needs Fund as part of expanding services. This is the first emergency needs fund for veterans, military members, and their families at Schoolcraft.

Schoolcraft’s Retirees Tour Vistatech 2.0 Construction
In May, over 40 Schoolcraft College Retirees were treated to a lovely luncheon as well as a tour of the new Vistatech 2.0 renovations/additions for Vistatech 2.0. Schoolcraft Architectural Coordinator, Jennie Urtel led groups throughout the construction site to check on the progress that has been made so far. We look forward to the grand opening of Vistatech 2.0 later this year in September 2023!
Following the tours, retirees and their guests enjoyed an academic update by Chief Academic Officer, Stacy Whiddon. Stacy gave an engaging presentation and answered any questions posed by the audience. Stuart Baker also spoke on the hard work that the Retiree Committee is doing to make events like these happen!
