Boost for Reconnect: A Philanthropic Program that Supports Student Success
Schoolcraft College is committed to helping students achieve their educational and career goals, regardless of their financial situation. That’s why the Schoolcraft College Foundation and the Financial Aid office have partnered to create the Boost for Reconnect program, which provides additional support to students who are eligible for the MiReconnect State of Michigan funded scholarship program.
The MiReconnect program covers tuition costs for eligible adults who want to pursue an associate degree or a skills certificate at a Michigan community college. However, some students may still face other barriers that prevent them from completing their studies, such as living expenses, transportation, childcare, or books.
The Boost for Reconnect program aims to bridge this gap by offering grants to students who need extra assistance to overcome these challenges. The program is funded by donations from generous individuals and organizations who support the Greatest Needs Fund, which allows the Foundation to respond to the most urgent and emerging needs of the College and its students.
To apply for the Boost for Reconnect program, students must complete an online application and provide documentation of their financial need. The program is open to students enrolled in at least six credit hours and with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.
In the 2022-23 academic year, the Boost for Reconnect program has helped 33 students who received funding for tuition that allowed them to focus on keeping up with other expenses, such as rent, utilities, gas, books, and supplies. Among the recipients were:
- Single mothers and fathers who are balancing their studies with their family responsibilities
- Nursing students who are pursuing a high-demand and rewarding career in health care
- A married couple who are both enrolled in the same program and supporting each other
- Full-time workers who are seeking a degree to advance their professional skills and opportunities
The Boost for Reconnect program has positively impacted these students’ lives and success. Out of the 33 students awarded, 31 received funds, and 10 graduated with their degree or certificate. The total amount of funds distributed was $9,169.66, with an average award of $295.78 per student.
The Boost for Reconnect program is one of the many ways that Schoolcraft College demonstrates its dedication to student success and empowerment. By providing a lifeline to students in need, the program enables them to overcome obstacles and pursue their dreams.
