The Reid Family

Traditionally, Schoolcraft College takes a few moments during the annual commencement ceremony to acknowledge a past graduate with the Distinguished Alumni Recognition Award. Alum Jon Haupt promoted to Lieutenant

The Farmington Hills Police Officer Sgt. Jon Haupt was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in July. Haupt was hired as a police officer in 1994. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2006. He has served in the Patrol Division and Investigative Division.

Alum Chef Adam Hightower opens Washington Township gastropub

The Schoolcraft College culinary graduate and metro Detroit native has worked in fine-dining restaurants around the world and, early in his career, competed in numerous international Culinary Olympics events.

Alum Chef helps Schoolcraft develop 4-year programs

When Schoolcraft began entertaining the idea of four-year programs, Chef Shawn Loving says, officials wanted to offer students a chance to learn about nutrition as well as the business side of the industry. The new degree programs reflect that, he says, and they will provide an “opportunity for students to get jobs in different areas,” such as the nutrition and dietary fields as well as culinary management.

Alum Chefs James Rigato & Mei Lin on Top Chef

James Rigato, chef of The Root Restaurant and Bar in White Lake Township, is a hungry chef. But is he hungry enough to be considered “tops”?. Also in the contestant lineup: Mei Lin, a Dearborn native, Schoolcraft College graduate and former Roast chef who is now working in Los Angeles.

Alum Chef Dino Grossi

Chef/proprietor Dino Grossi has opened a new location for his four star restaurant – Volare Ristorante. What sets Volare apart, is the handling of impeccable ingredients, many of them imports from Italy, and others from quality sources here, by a staff that makes pretty much everything that emerges from the glass-walled kitchen visible behind the bar.

Alumni Gives Back

Schoolcraft College alumnus, Joshua York, began the York Project; a business that sells clothing and donates hats, shirts and other apparel to the homeless in Detroit. Similar to Tom’s Shoes, the company donates an article of clothing for every piece it sells.
