Dearborn’s Mei Lin is the new Top Chef

As Wednesday night’s episode began, Lin said she was there “to conquer it all … to win Top Chef.” Mei Lin covered her face with her hands in stunned surprise when judge Padma Lakshmi declared her the winner.

After graduating from Schoolcraft’s culinary program in 2007, Mei Lin spent time training with some of the most respected chefs in the industry, including Michael Symon, Marcus Samuelsson and Wolfgang Puck, in Las Vegas before moving to West Hollywood to join “Top Chef” season six winner Michael Voltaggio’s opening team.

Decorated Navy SEAL Brett Marihugh died in Accident

Special Warfare Operator 1st Class Brett Allen Marihugh, 34, passed away after being involved in a training accident at a naval training base in Norfolk, Va. Brett was a 2005 graduate of Schoolcraft College.

Chef Chris Gadulka received a degree in 1998 from Schoolcraft College in culinary arts. He is now the chef/partner at the Fleming’s Steakhouse and Wine Bar in Birmingham. Lt. Bernie Brosnan honored as firefighter of year for 2nd time

Lt. Bernie Brosnan went to the fire academy at Schoolcraft College and has been thriving ever since! Now he has completed 20 years with the Redford Township Fire Department and was honored last week as the 2014 Firefighter of the Year.

Craig Myrand, the executive chef of Bill’s restaurant in Bloomfield Hills, was not the least bit interested in becoming a cook when he was growing up in Grosse Ile. His goal was to become a cartoonist.

Michael Forbes – Made Crain’s 40 under 40!

Alumni Michael Forbes studied Computer Graphic Technology at Schoolcraft College before transferring to Detroit’s College for Creative Studies where he earned his Bachelor’s in Product Design. He uses his talents to design for The Henry Ford Innovation Institute – the position that landed him on the Crain’s 40 under 40 list for 2015. Michael has also co-founded Any Mile Clothing, a T-shirt company created to support local families facing hardship.
