Empowering Those Who Protect Us: Expanding Veteran And Military Support Services at Schoolcraft College

Your support has helped us raise over $80,000 to complete Schoolcraft’s new Mark L. Whitfield Veteran & Military Services Center (VMSC). The Center has been renovated solely with philanthropic support and is now officially open! For the final stretch of this fundraising effort, the Mahoney, Strom, Fausone and Whitfield families partnered with us to offer $40,000 in matching funds!

Community Colleges Still Need Philanthropic Support With New State Programs

Many community college donors are wondering what happens to scholarships when state funded programs like Michigan Achievement Scholarship and MI Reconnect offer ‘free community college.’  The short answer is that even with these opportunities, there remains a gap and therefore a need for student scholarships and student support.

Press Announcement – D3C3

The Detroit Regional Chamber’s Detroit Drives Degrees Community College Collaborative (D3C3) announced over $30 million in support from Ballmer Group and the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation. The initiative is a partnership with seven Southeast Michigan community colleges, including Schoolcraft College, to ensure students have equitable educational opportunities and graduate with high-value credentials or degrees that lead to good-paying, in-demand jobs with local employers, boosting the Region’s overall prosperity.

YOU are changing lives!

Donors to community colleges are questioning the need for scholarships when state-funded programs offer “free community college.” While these programs help with education attainment, they do not cover all the expenses needed to earn a degree. For example, programs like Michigan Reconnect have limitations, such as only allowing residents to attend community college within their district, leaving a gap between in-district and out-of-district tuition.
