Family honors mother’s legacy
When Monica Sullivan laughed, you couldn’t help laughing along. When times were tough at work, she would turn on a CD and lead her team in singing loudly to Simon and Garfunkel. When a student came to her needing help, she would give them a hug, hand them a tissue, and close her door to spend hours with them, until by the end they were both giggling. She was a dedicated, compassionate and loving professional, friend, wife, mother and grandmother, who committed her life to nursing and caring for others.
Student Pursues Dreams
Schoolcraft College student Dania Baraka has her sights set on going to medical school one day, and as the Foundation Scholar for 2014, having the majority of her school expenses paid off for two semesters by the scholarship she received really kept her on a path to reach her academic goals.
Former Scholarship Recipient Gives Back
When Marcia (Wright) Scarbrough graduated from high school in 1977, she had no idea what to do with her life. With her mother widowed, she was eligible for a special scholarship and decided to carpool daily to Schoolcraft College with two neighbors, with the hope that she would find direction for her life. “Schoolcraft gave children of widows money to go to college,” Scarbrough said. “They helped me out. When I graduated high school, I didn’t think I had a future at all.”

Mona Markabani
